The new PERIKLAS series kicks off with Bronx-based artist NICKOLAS MOHANNA – “Chroma” transforms bowed strings, prepared piano and modular synthesizer into a dense sonic trip embracing drone / ambient, the eeriness of COIL around “Musick To Play In The Dark” and hints of Tibetan temple music. Limited edition of 100 hand-numbered copies, yellow vinyl in silk-screened sleeve with artwork by JOE GILMORE.

NICKOLAS MOHANNA is an American interdisciplinary artist whose practice explores a number of fields—video, drawing, and artist books. In “Chroma”, MOHANNA’s sonic investigations continue a working method of implementing situational aspects of the studio or public site as compositional tools to sculpt a piece. A materiality of the sound is sustained in the structures; where objects become cues that propel the way a work can begin or end; and in this exchange, the weight of sound transforms over time with a tactile tone or mood. The overarching themes of the piece are revealed more acoustically with an interweaving electronic component; a counterpoint between the two in a patchwork of voice and sculpture-–being that of bowed strings, prepared piano and modular synthesizer.

Mastered & cut by RASHAD BECKER, Chroma is available as download and highly limited artifact LP in an edition of 100 hand-numbered copies, yellow vinyl in silk-screened sleeve with artwork by British graphic designer and artist JOE GILMORE.
